Weather
Jerome has what is considered mild weather for Arizona; it’s cooler than Phoenix in the summer and warmer than Flagstaff in the winter. Summer temperatures have been known to reach 100 degrees but generally range from 85 to 95°F. Winter temperatures can be in the low 30s and as high as the low 60s.
The area has two major rainy seasons—winter and summer monsoons. The winter season runs from December thru March. Jerome is high enough in elevation to have snow and fog on occasion (although with Arizona’s ongoing drought it's rare). Generally winter rains are gentle but can last throughout the day. The summer monsoon season starts mid-June and runs through September. Monsoons are dramatic and short term. Dark clouds form through the day and by late afternoon can darken the sky, producing violent lightening and thunderstorms often with torrential rains that pass quickly. Storms are very localized; it's true that sometimes you can get out of the rain by walking across the street.
Jerome is built on a side of a hill that provides an excellent conduit for wind. It often sweeps down the hill in energetic bursts sending debris flying. It can be windy year round but spring and fall are generally the strongest. The good news is that Jerome has beautiful weather and chances are it will be a great day when you visit; and if not, Jerome State Historic Park offers an interesting and fun refuge.
