October 13 & 14, 2012: Fort Verde Days: Official AZ Centennial Event

Over 500 people stopped by the park during the celebration weekend as part of Camp Verde's Fort Verde Days, an official Arizona Centennial Event. Activities included flag-raising and lowering ceremonies, living history presentations with the Buffalo Soldiers and re-enactors, special presentations, a fashion show, cavalry drills and a vintage baseball game.
Congratulations to our re-enactors and volunteers for winning first place in the Fort Verde Days Parade Award: Walking/Marching!
We would like to thank our special presenters: Dr. Sam Palmer, The Battle of Big Dry Wash; Tom Collins, Professor Emeritus of Theater, University of WI, Platteville: Arizona’s Famous Army Belle: The Story of Carrie Wilkins and Her Lovelorn Suitors; Joseph Stack: The American Indian and the Civil War; and Robert Gibney: John Townsend - Farmer, Indian Fighter, and Scout. Thanks also to Lance Bush and the AZ Stars and Stripes for hosting our Vintage Baseball Game and the foreign exchange students who had their first experience playing vintage baseball. Last but not least, a big thank you to the Town of Camp Verde, the Camp Verde Cavalry and our Volunteers who faithfully help run these special events including operating the Dutch Oven demonstrations and performing interpretive re-enactments.
